This news item from the Bible Society interested me:-
'Scientists and Scripture finally agree. The parting of the Red Sea may have actually happened, according to researchers. Computer simulation suggests a powerful wind could have pushed back shallow waters, just as it says in the Old Testament account. Scientists believe the event would have happened at a nearby location in the Nile Delta, where an ancient river is believed to have merged with a coastal lagoon. Estimating the water flow and depth at the site 3,000 years ago, they used an ocean computer model to simulate the impact of a strong wind. This would have created a land bridge, with the waters rushing back as soon as the wind dropped. The findings by the National Centre for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado, appeared in the online journal PLoS One.
I remember reading a book called 'The Bible as History' many moons ago which looked at possible natural explanations of ancient Biblical miracles. I thought then that finding such natural explanations not only helps to confirm that the event happened but also the hand of God in the event -in the timing and location - just when and where needed in the story of the people of God.
