After weeks when we seem to have sun most days- for a while anyway- the last few days have been dreich-wet with that constant dreary drip that gets wet everywhere without a good downpour. Yin came home dripping wet and agreed with Grace (from Uganda) who was here that British weather is unique!
So last week I picked the last blackberries and raspberries, planted the last bulbs and did more tidying up. George came to help in the garden and finished much of the pruning and cutting back (which he loves to do)
We planted hyacinth and crocuses in my lovely blue trough, put little violas on top and Georg then made a wirenetting cage and secured it all round; we dare the squirrel to get in. Squirrels have dug up most of the crocuses I planted and what they didn't eat they left lying around among the plants removed. They now have a supply of peanuts up in the copse and I have greased the pole on which the birdseed and fat balls hang. They are finding it more difficult to climb up but not I think impossible!
Henry the Heron went missing last week. He is supposed to stand guard by the pondso the magpies will keep off but he got moved when he was in the way of the cleaning up. Eventually he was found hiding in the rockery by the pond; with one metal leg sticking up -could have been mistaken for a twig. Now he is hibernating in the summer house; he would soon be rusty this weather!

If you look hard you will see Henry to the right of the Summer House!
