We went to Peebles

We went to Peebles on Sunday. Sunny but cold. It is a lovely drive through the hills into Border country and although it still looks wintry we had the sense that Spring is not far off.
We stopped en route at the Steading for a coffee and to sit by a blazing wood fire. Very pleasant and tempting to stay but we had promised ourselves a day off which means at least getting away from Edinburgh even the outskirts-

We visited St Peter's (SEC) Church in Peebles just as people were leaving after the service. It is one of those unusual Church buildings that is often open to the visitor in search of peace. They do have some vandal visits but feel it is still worth this risk.
It is a pleasant place to wander round and there is always something interesting to read! There is a fairly modern looking window with Mary holding the child Jesus and a stalwart Joseph walking beside them. They didn't have that pale Western look depicted in so many Victorian windows but had a darker skin. I found the window attractive.
People were friendly too. The parents of a young family knew people we knew- Mother is Japanese and knew Yin's Japanese Friends. The Minister stayed for a chat even though he admitted he was ready for his lunch!
So were we,- so we treated ourselves to Sunday lunch at the Tontine Hotel. There too we met friends from Edinburgh!
So we had a pleasant wander by an alternative route over the hills from Innerleithen and back before it got dark. Yes Spring must be near as the days are noticably lengthening!
