The Audacity of Hope

I'm fond of reading autobiographies-and biographies- and I seem to have a number on my bookshelf. This one is exceptional. Yes I've been reading the Obama story over the last few months at intervals. It is very well written and with an easy style, sharing his experiences and thoughts and helping the outsider to get an insider view of American Politics. 'The Audacity of Hope Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream' covers his life as a politician through the State to the US Senate. Mostly he is describing the America he knows and loves, its Values and faith, Republicans and Democrats, politics, war, race and family. He discusses 'the importance of empathy and inclusiveness in politics, his hopes for a different America with different policies, and how the ideals of its democracy can be renewed. A senator and a lawyer, a professor and a father, a Christian and a sceptic,' - and now, of course an U. S. President to be. Can he carry through his inspiration, reach even some of those dreams for his country in spite of the heavy power burdens about to descend on him? I pray so and with people like Jim Wallis among his friends he has good prayerful support in the Faith community. He writes:-
'Most elections are just power rearrangements; this one was a transformational moment in our history. A fundamental shift is taking place in America, and we saw the evidence on November 4th. It is a political shift, a cultural and racial shift, a generational shift, and a religious shift.'
