Wednesday Dec 12

So many things seem to be on Tuesdays these days I was quite convinced friends were coming to share a meal last night-quite relieved today is 12th; it has given me time to send off Christmas cards and sort through the unsold books from the Church bookstall ready to take them back on the 'sale or return' basis.
Reading Alan Bennet's autobiography/cum journal (Untold Stories) I find most of his comments and memories have particular interest because he is a contempory, I suppose I mean we are around the same age and he is commenting on issues and people I know of -though have never met! I remember going to Oxford with the Studio Theatre group from Salisbury to see Beyond the Fringe. It was unforgettable. I'd never seen anything like it but I did not know then that it marked a new era in satire as That was the Week That was did on TV. Both sent up the Establishment in a way that no-one seems to have dared to before. AB's memories of Peter Cook and of Dudley Moore help to put the record straight. Dudley Moore seems to have been remembered as a Comedian rather than the brilliant Musician he was.
