Getting to know Paul
I'm still on my first module of my Christian Studies course but am enjoying being able to read around the topic without the pressure of a deadline for my assignments! I'm still on New Testament and have been delving into Paul's letters. With the help of people like Tom Wright I am beginning to like Paul and feel I am beginning to know him. Walter Wangerin's novel 'Paul', the story of Paul through the eyes of those who knew him- a kind of biography, using all the known sources, helps to bring the story of Paul alive. He quotes Seneca's letters to his brother Gallio, the Roman Governor of Corinth, and Luke's history as well as others who knew him and of course Paul himself. So I did get another assignment off this week - my notes for a sermon on 1 Corinthians 11;17- but it was quite an effort. Deadlines have their uses-its taken me 4 months this time!
